Taronga Student Ambassadors are commissioned

To launch our learning partnership with Taronga Conservation Society, students, parents, staff, and board members joined members of the Education unit at Taronga Zoo for the commissioning of our inaugural Loreto Kirribilli Taronga Student Ambassadors.

We heard from Paul Maguire, Director of Education at Taronga, who has dedicated more than 30 years to conservation, education and youth engagement. Our Principal, Dr Nicole Archard, spoke of the significance of the Taronga-Loreto Kirribilli partnership within our school community. Guest speaker, Belinda Fairbrother, Manager of Guest Learning and Community Impact at Taronga, inspired the audience with her tales of Antarctica, the Taronga theory of change, success stories like the sustainable palm oil campaign, and the need for more women in STEM.

Finally, the commissioning of our inaugural Loreto Kirribilli Taronga Student Ambassadors. Thirty two students from Years 4 to 10 received their Ambassador certificates and gave a pledge to “to care for our planet and all living things. Our mission is conservation: to speak up for wildlife, protect our environment and inspire others to make a difference”.

Ms Rachel Noonan, Coordinator of Transdisciplinary Learning & Partnerships K-12, said she was looking forward to seeing how the students embrace their new roles as Taronga Ambassadors. “This partnership is deeply aligned with who we are as a Loreto school. We are called to respond to the needs of our world with courage, justice, and compassion, and to form young women who act as agents of positive change. It also reflects the broader work of Loreto Sisters , who champion education that is ethically grounded and committed to the care of our common home”.
