May Day has been an integral part of the fabric of our school for well over a century and we were delighted to be able to come together as a community this year to celebrate this significant event.

The day commenced with the customary procession of flowers to honour Mary, Mother of God, followed by our special whole school Liturgy. The traditional crowning of Our Lady by the youngest Kindergarten student, ably assisted by our Senior School Captain, was again a reverential focal point. Afterwards, flowers were collected by our JPIC student representatives and presented to residents of a local retirement village as has been the tradition for many years.

Following the Liturgy, Senior School students participated in a number of activities including fundraising initiatives in aid of Mary Ward International Australia organised by Year 10 students and conversation circles on the topic of climate justice.

The day’s events concluded with felicity-filled performances of House songs, written by our Music Captains especially for the occasion, and a highly anticipated May Day concert in Centenary Hall.

As the day unfolded, we paused to reflect on the modified procession and online liturgy which took place to mark May Day in 2020 and gave thanks that we could celebrate together on campus this year. We also took the opportunity to extend our thoughts and prayers to the broader global community during this challenging time.
