Junior School teacher named Excellence Awardee

Congratulations to Loreto Kirribilli Junior School teacher, Ms Kate Archer, who has been named an Excellence Awardee for Primary School Teacher of the Year (Non-Government Schools) in the 2026 Australian Education Awards. These national awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of educators who demonstrate excellence, innovation and leadership in Australian education.

Ms Archer has been recognised for her significant contribution to education both within Loreto Kirribilli and across the broader educational community. She is actively engaged in professional learning and collaboration through the Independent Primary School Heads Association, ensuring her practice is informed by current research and leading educational approaches.

Recently, Ms Archer shared her expertise through presentations at the Mathematical Association of NSW Conference and the Unpacking School Wide Data Conference, and in June she will present at the Global Forum on Girls’ Education in Toronto, Canada. Last year, she was also selected from educators around the world to participate in the prestigious Global Action Research Collaborative (GARC) in partnership with the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools. This international initiative involves training, research, writing and presentations focused on advancing girls’ education globally.

Demonstrating her ongoing commitment to professional growth, Ms Archer is currently undertaking a Master of Gifted Education to further strengthen her expertise in supporting high-potential learners.

Ms Archer is an exceptional educator with an unwavering commitment to knowing, nurturing and challenging every student in her care. In her role as High Potential and Gifted Education Teacher and Acting Curriculum Coordinator of Teaching and Learning in the Junior School, she develops strong relationships with students and uses thoughtful analysis of student data to gain a deep understanding of each learner’s strengths, interests and potential.

Her evidence-informed approach to teaching ensures clarity, rigour and measurable growth, with lessons grounded in explicit instruction and carefully scaffolded learning experiences. She fosters critical and creative thinking by encouraging students to articulate reasoning, justify ideas and extend their understanding in a classroom culture where thinking is visible and valued. Ms Archer also leads professional learning for staff in areas including mathematics pedagogy, student data and inquiry learning, generously sharing evidence-based practice with colleagues.

Her strong communication with parents fosters genuine partnerships that support each child’s learning journey, and her impact is evident not only in students’ academic growth, but also in the confidence, capability and enthusiasm she inspires in every learner.

We congratulate Ms Archer on this outstanding achievement and celebrate the passion, expertise and dedication she brings to the education of Loreto Kirribilli students each day.
