International Women's Day 2024

Every year on 8 March, we come together to celebrate International Women's Day. The United Nation’s theme for International Women's Day 2024 was Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress. This theme called on all of us to challenge stereotypes, fight discrimination, and celebrate the achievements of women around the world. It is a call to action for gender equality, and a reminder that we all have a role to play in creating a more inclusive and equal world. International Women's Day reminds us of the power of working with one another to achieve our goals.

Companions in Learning

Our Companions in Learning from St Aloysius' College joined Years 11 and 12 students for an inspiring International Women's Day Breakfast with guest speaker Dr Laura Vidal, who shared the stories of women who have been forced into marriage and the impact of human trafficking and slavery and its intersection with domestic and family violence. Laura recently completed her PhD in Criminology with the Monash Gender and Family Violence Prevention Centre, with her research focused on young women’s experiences of forced marriage in Australia.

In a separate lunchtime event, 22 student leaders were invited to St Aloysius' College for a panel discussion on the UN theme for the day. The panellists included Barbara Watkins, JEA Executive Director; Katrina Rowan, St Aloysius’ College Ignatian Coordinator; and Yvette Vignando, CEO of Mary’s House. These events are significant initiatives promoting International Women’s Day with St Aloysius' College as part of the Companions in Learning program.
