Year 10 Footballer Annabelle goalkeeps for the Junior Matildas in Asian Cup Qualifiers

Congratulations to star Footballer Annabelle in Year 10, who is playing with the Junior Matildas in her preferred position as goalkeeper. The Junior Matildas have won both their pool games in the Asian Cup Qualifiers, which means they will be playing in the Asian Cup in China in 2026!

In the Asian Cup Qualifiers, the Junior Matildas were in a pool of three teams: Australia, Northern Mariana Islands and Singapore. The top team of these three would qualify to compete at the Asian Cup in China in April 2026.

Australia played Northern Mariana Islands first up. Annabelle was the Vice Captain, then became Captain when the Captain was substituted. She didn’t have much work to do physically,  but led the team well by her directions and encouragement.
Australia 22, Northern Mariana Islands 0.

Next, in the game Singapore, Annabelle was the Vice Captain again. She was substituted in the 75th minute to make way for another keeper to make her Australian debut.
Australia 11, Singapore 0.

So the Junior Matildas are through to the Asian Cup in April 2026, to be held in China. What an achievement for Annabelle and the team - we are so proud.
