The panellists discussed their varied career paths, the theme of IWD, ‘Balancing the Scales’, what leadership looks like for women, and the enduring legacy of their Loreto education, characterised by courage, risk-taking and social justice.
Our Principal, Dr Nicole Archard, thanked the panellists and summed up the message of the morning for our young women: the importance of self-belief, and to lead with courage and confidence. Thank you to all involved in organising and participating in this wonderful event - a real highlight of our school calendar!
Our IWD Panel
We heard from an impressive panel of women who have taken their Loreto education and forged careers in fields as varied as gastrointestinal medicine and navy engineering. Thank you to these inspiring ex-students for sharing their stories!
- Lieutenant Commander Caroline Skinner ('09) is in charge of the Marine Engineering Department on HMAS Supply. She joined the Royal Australian Navy while studying a combined Engineering and Arts degree at ANU. Caroline has been deployed to the Indo-Pacific, including South-East Asia, the South West Pacific, and Hawaii.
- Second Officer B787 Brigitte Howe ('00) is a commercial pilot flying the Boeing 787 with Qantas on long haul operations. Throughout her career, Brigitte has worked across multiple sectors of the industry, including as a flight instructor, charter pilot, and airline pilot.
- CEO Sarah Rennie ('88) leads the Capital Markets team for Jarden Australia and is one of the founding partners of Jarden’s Australian business. In a career spanning more than 20 years, she has experience across the full spectrum of large and complex equity capital markets transactions.
- Professor Jane M. Andrews ('81) is a distinguished Australian healthcare leader with more than 25 years’ experience transforming gastroenterology care. She codeveloped the Crohn’s Colitis Care digital platform, now supporting more than 16,000 patients across Australia and New Zealand.
- Grace Brennan ('01) lives on a sheep and cropping farm in Warren, NSW, with her husband Jack and their four children. In 2019 she founded #buyfromthebush, a groundbreaking social media campaign created to support rural communities facing drought.
- Our facilitator, Helen Dalley ('74), is one of Australia’s most accomplished television journalists, with more than three decades reporting and anchoring across the Nine Network and Sky News Australia. In 2019 she launched the podcast Build It. They’ll Come.
