Subject Selection Processes for Year 10
Term 3 2017 begins with important processes for Year 10. On Thursday July 20 they will have three lessons focused on subject selection. Included in that time will be an individual interview with a Coordinator or member of the School Executive to help the students to begin to make appropriate choices for their Stage 6 (Year 11 and Year 12) patterns of study. That same night the parents of Year 10 are invited to attend the Stage 6 Subject Selection Information Night. It will commence at 7:00pm in Centenary Hall. Parents will hear a general presentation and then have the opportunity to see three faculty-specific presentations.
On Tuesday July 25 Year 10 Parent /Teacher Meetings will take place, again in Centenary Hall, commencing at 3:40pm. The online booking system will be available to parents towards the end of the July school holidays. This evening is important as it provides both parents and students with an opportunity to seek individualised advice from teachers who have a deep knowledge of the students as learners combined with expertise in the senior courses.
The Stage 6 Course Handbook has been uploaded as a pdf document on CH@LK for students to download and examine closely with their families over the holiday break. We are using a digital platform for this, rather than printing the handbooks, to reflect the reality of online university handbooks and to align with environmental considerations.
I would strongly encourage Year 10 students to talk to the Year 11 and Year 12 students in their Circle Classes over the next few weeks so that they can hear about subjects from the perspective of current students. This should help students to align their subject choices with their personal strengths, interests and goals.
