In week 3 of this term the TAS Department once again proudly hosted the Annual TAS EXPO. This involved a creative display of works from every student studying subjects within the TAS KLA from Year 7-11, exhibited in the Performing Arts foyer. Some of the displays included exquisitely designed, intricate laser-cut lamp shades; customised designer pyjama sets that were embellished using a variety of surface design techniques, innovative and educational wooden toys from the Year 8 Toyworld unit, food styling exhibits from our Year 9-12 Food Technology students, together with customized silver jewellery pieces from our talented Year 10 Design and Technology students. The Year 11 Mini Major works continue to inspire younger students with their Design Briefs which were based on real world problems to cater for the teenage target market. Projects included the development and realisation of software applications, a variety of wearable fabric manipulations and mixed media adornment pieces as well as innovative timber end products. The lunchtime entertainment during the EXPO included an interactive Masterchef competition in the quad and an energetic fashion parade of Designer pyjama wear. As with previous years, students were eager to view the exhibits of their classmates and friends. A big ‘Thank You’ too for all the parents and friends who came along to admire the work of their daughters, nieces, granddaughters and friends. As always at this time of year, the TAS department is abuzz with Year 12 Design and Technology students meeting with their teachers to consolidate and add the finishing touches to their Major Design Projects and accompanying Portfolios. Final Design Projects and Portfolio’s will be submitted on Thursday, 25 August in readiness for the HSC markers who will arrive soon after this date. Mrs Kim Rowston, Mrs Jane Dunn and Ms Allison Connell have worked tirelessly and very closely with the girls to ensure they present their best work to the HSC markers. Year 12 Design and Technology Major Design Projects will be on display in the Performing Arts Centre foyer on Friday, 16 and Monday, 19 September.
Parents and friends of these students will be invited to attend the Opening night on Friday, 16 September, canapés and drinks will be served. As Year 11 students continue their preparation for their upcoming Preliminary exams and Year 7 students engage enthusiastically in launching and promoting their own Restaurant Showcase, or enriching their computer software skills in the LOGO ME unit, we continue to be inspired and enthused by working with your daughters.
We wish all Year 12 Food Technology, Design and Technology and Hospitality students the very best for the weeks leading up to their HSC exams and encourage them to use this very significant time to hone their knowledge and skills in examination practice and technique. We look forward to supporting all of our students during this time.
Finally, we congratulate Mrs Prue Jackson from the TAS department on the birth of her second son, Sebastion Daniel and at the same time we welcome back Mrs Louise Booth from her maternity leave.
