At Loreto we are proud of our students’ enthusiasm for extra-curricular activities including music, sport, debating and more recently, our Loreto dance troupes. These groups have been learning from their very talented teachers since the beginning of this year, after a small taster in late 2015. Last Saturday the troupes had their first public performance at the IRBD eisteddod, and two of our dancers have contributed the report below.

In 2015, a new Loreto Dance Troupe was developed by the wonderful Ms Mandi Whittaker and a small group of Loreto students. In 2016 the Troupe has come back better than ever. We now have two amazing and experienced dance teachers, Ms Mandi teaching the Lyrical Troupe and Miss Rhiannon Villareal for Jazz.
This year these teachers welcomed a whole new group of students with a wide range of dance experience into the Troupes and created two new brilliant dances. Miss Rhiannon has choreographed an upbeat jazz routine with hip hop elements, whilst Ms Mandi has created a technically and emotionally stunning lyrical piece. Learning these two dances has been a wonderful experience and we all have loved being taught from such experienced and knowledgeable dance teachers. The Lyrical Troupe was lucky enough to get a taste for the stage in the Loreto Dance Night last month which was a really exciting experience. We were able to wear our costumes for the first time and show off all the hard work to our peers.
Last weekend both Troupes competed in the IRBD Dance Eisteddfod on the Northern Beaches against teams from schools across Sydney. The standard was incredibly high and Loreto was lucky enough to receive Highly Commended for the Lyrical Troupe with very positive and insightful comments from the judges. Most of the Troupes in the competition have been performing together for many years, so it was fantastic to show them what Loreto Kirribilli has to offer.
We have so many talented dancers at our school and in a very short time we have worked really hard with amazing teachers to pull together two wonderful dances. We have had so much fun and can’t wait to continue performing throughout the 2016 school Eisteddfod season. A big thank you to our Loreto teachers and Ms Mandi and Miss Rhiannon for all your work and support.
