Loreto Kirribilli’s Gifted and Talented Program has a number of dimensions, which can be accessed by higher ability students to develop talent. One dimension includes Year 7 and 8 pull-out programs, part of the Academic Enrichment options. These programs are aimed at higher ability students and there is an expectation that students who partake in them will complete additional learning. As the students engage in these programs during the school at a different time each week, they are expected to catch up on learning missed in regular classes. These programs are pitched at a level suiting the intellectual aptitudes of higher ability students.
In 2017, we are again offering two pull-out programs. The first is the Personal Independent Project, which offers higher ability students a chance to investigate a school related topic using the guided inquiry process. Students create an advanced question to explore their area of interest, research and investigate, and create a final product, the culmination of their understanding. The second pull-out program is Philosophy in Action, where students explore a range of philosophical topics with like-minded peers. Students are expected to read in preparation for sessions, and we use a community of inquiry approach to develop students’ critical thinking skills and communication capabilities.
Year 7s and 8s have had the opportunity to hear about these programs, and are in the process of self-nominating.
If you would like to find out more about these programs, please go to the Academic Enrichment page. There is a list of offerings, and the Personal Independent Project and Philosophy in Action are listed alphabetically. Otherwise, please click here to go to the Academic Enrichment page.
