I would like to take this opportunity as this is the first PDHPE report of the year to acknowledge the efforts of the 2016 PDHPE HSC cohort. We had one class completing the HSC course with 73% receiving a mark of 80 or more which is an outstanding achievement.
Some key learnings from our class of 2016:
- Those students who completed homework tasks on a regular basis and sought extra work for feedback performed the best.
- Consistent work throughout the year was paramount to develop that deeper understanding and to avoid cram time.
- Finally for the students to know that is never too late to improve – this was evident in final HSC marks.
PASS new course
Physical Activity and Sports Studies (PASS) is an elective subject in Stage 5 that is new to Loreto Kirribilli in 2017. It is an exciting course that aims to establish a broad view of physical activity and highlight the myriad of contexts in which students can build physical activity into their lifestyle. The content aims to incorporate a wide range of lifelong physical activities to promote and ensure that learning about movement and concepts are expanded. The individualized programs will affect the way students understand and utilize physical activity and methods of sustaining positive behaviours into their future endeavours. Already in Term 1, Year 9 PASS students have experienced 4 NSW Female Cricketers who delivered a presentation tailored to the girls and participated in a practical game. In Term 2, they will be gaining new skills and knowledge as part of the Australian Sports Identity unit in AFL. All students will undertake a four-part course to acquire their Level 0 Accreditation in AFL coaching.
