There is always a buzz of excitement during Term 2 in anticipation of the Music Festival performances at the Sydney Town Hall, emanating from spirited adjudications. It is a very difficult task curating the Music Festival program as the depth of talent at Loreto is extraordinary, with each adjudication showcasing exceptional creativity. We look forward with great anticipation to the 2017 Music Festival performances on Thursday 22 June commencing at 7:30pm sharp.
Year 12 Principal’s Lunch
Another important series of events during Term 2 is the Year 12 Principal’s Lunch, introduced in 2014. I host twelve lunch time forums for Year 12 students over a 9 week period where Ms Rocca, the Year Wellbeing Coordinator and I listen to our senior students share their perceptions of the strengths of Loreto Kirribilli and their suggestions for improvement. These lunches have functioned as ‘think-tank forums’, resulting in the introduction of some wonderful initiatives. These include our Senior School library being made available to Year 12 during holiday periods, the Year 7-12 Homework help initiative offered in the library from 4-6pm Monday-to-Friday, and the recently-introduced Circle Classes, which are strengthening the impact of our vertical (Years 7-12) house system. Each year we have implemented some very beneficial suggestions resulting from these listening forums. I thoroughly enjoy these lunches and I am delighted that, once again, Year 12 have offered creative and insightful suggestions for potential implementation into the future. I look forward to sharing these suggestions with staff and parents over the next twelve months.
As we head towards the end of term I thank all of the staff involved in a range of voluntary work over the holiday period. In many schools, this work attracts additional payment or is outsourced to other organisations at a cost to parents. I therefore thank staff who have volunteered their time to accompany girls on the Snow Sports camp, Verity Immersion to Arnhem Land, and the HASSE Space School in the United States (NASA). I also thank the Year 12 teachers offering classes during the holiday period and those busily marking Year 12 practice essays. We are blessed to have a teaching staff so committed and I thank them most sincerely on behalf of all parents and students.
Congratulations to our Mock Trial team who are currently undefeated. Special thanks to Mr Bain and Ms Pearson for the training, support and encouragement they offer the girls. We wish our CSDA debating teams competing in the quarter finals all the very best and thank the coaches and Ms Sartain for the training, support and encouragement they have offered all season. We also congratulate and thank all the rowing crews who participated in the All Saints Corporate Regatta recently. This regatta is a major fund raising event for LK Rowing. This year we had another new entry into the competition known as ‘The Motley Crew’ featuring our very own Deputy Principal Ms Berlage, our newly appointed Chair of Loreto Kirribilli Board Ms Sheila McGregor, Board members Mr Niall Ronan and Ms Yvonne Le Bas, our Year 9 Well Being Coordinator Ms Partington and parent, Ms Kate Towey. Well done and thank you to all the crews!!!
