I extend a warm welcome to all students, parents and friends to our 2017 school year and wish you all a most enjoyable and productive year of learning and community endeavour.
Picking up Students after School in Carabella st
Parents are kindly asked not to attempt to pick up their daughters by car in Carabella st before 3:25pm. The Junior School car lines process takes priority in this area from 3:00pm.
Senior School students are not dismissed until 3:10pm, and then they need to return to their lockers, collect their bags and make their way out of the school. If Senior School parents are waiting in Carabella st before 3:25pm, this adds to the congestion in the area and potentially endangers our students. Please consider the safety of all of our students, particularly those in the Junior School, in making your arrangements for afternoon pick ups.
You are also asked to ensure that traffic and parking regulations are followed at all times, in both Elamang ave and Carabella st especially during the busy drop off and pick up times. This is to ensure not only our students’ safety, but also the safety and needs of our local community and contractors.
It is important to note particularly that we successfully lobbied North Sydney Council in 2015 to create a loading zone for us in Carabella st, just south of the main driveway. This enables delivery vehicles to safely stop there, instead of having to drive down into the school with the obvious related risks to students and staff that this brings. Parents are therefore specifically asked to be respectful of this loading zone, at all times and not put others at risk or inconvenience for the sake of their own priorities.
The school grounds are supervised by staff immediately before and after school, during recess and lunch. An after school aide is on site until 6pm.
General supervision of the grounds is provided for students from 8:25am each morning. Students may use the library from 7:30am each morning. Unless students have a before school training session, which generally start at 7am, or they wish to use the library, they should not arrive at school unnecessarily early.
Whilst the school is committed to ensuring student safety it requires and expects parental co-operation in managing safety issues before and after school, or if students leave the school grounds with permission during the day.
Year 12 students, once notified by their Year Wellbeing Coordinator that they may do so, may sign out personally and leave the grounds during specified lunch breaks. In recognition of their age and maturity they are unsupervised at this time. Students from all year groups using the library after school are required to sign in and out of the library to record their movements. If they sign out of the library outside of school hours, they will not be directly supervised.
The library closes at 6pm. Parents collecting their daughters after library study are asked to do so from the front drive, rather than entering the library.
Where school activities (such as performances, sport or rehearsals) are arranged before or after school, appropriate supervision will be provided for attending students depending on the time and location of the activity. Parents will be made aware of such supervision arrangements for before and after school activities. In the case of after school activities, if a student leaves the school grounds prior to or during an activity, it is the responsibility of parents to be aware of this through discussion with their daughter and aware that supervision does not extend beyond the school grounds.
Launch of New Student & Parent Portal
Parents received an email earlier this week outlining some of the key features of our soon to be released student and parent portal, which will provide an effective and streamlined complement to the School’s other online platforms such as CH@LK. A reminder that while our portal and its calendar functions are being finalised, parents and students should refer to the dates included in this newsletter, the spiral bound school calendar sent home this week, and the student diary for information about upcoming events.
