The new 2016 / 2017 season is now only just a few weeks away and we are very much looking forward to the new season ahead.
Thank you to the number of you who took the time to fill out the Rowing Survey for the 2015/2016 season. This feedback is valuable in assisting with improving Loreto Kirribilli’s rowing program for coming seasons.
Based on our predictions for the 2016/ 2017 Season, we are anticipating a large rowing squad of about 100-120 rowers, potentially the largest program to date in the history of Loreto Kirribilli Rowing.
In saying this we have had to look at how we logistically cater for these numbers and have had to put restrictions on the program’s capacity. We will be limiting each year squad to no more than 30 rowers (max).
There have been a few inquiries regarding what the squads will be boating in the 2016 / 2017 season. Based on each squad have a maximum of 30 rowers, the Loreto Kirribilli Program will presume to boat the following crews:
- Senior Squad – (8+’s, 4+’s, 4X+’s, 2X’s, 1X’s) 30 Rowers Max
- Year 10 Squad – (8+’s, 4+’s, 4X+’s, 2X’s, 1X’s) 30 Rowers Max
- Year 9 Squad – (4X+’s, 2X’s, 1X’s) 30 Rowers Max
- Year 8 Squad – (4X+’s, 2X’s, 1X’s) 30 Rowers Max
There will be opportunities for rowers during the season to race in other classes of boats, but this will be dependent on the rower’s ability and numbers within the squad. These decisions to race particular events will be at the discretion of the rowing coaches.
This year we have made adjustments to the weekly training program to allow a stronger and more fluid set up for the coming season. This factors in training load, boat availability, coaching and recovery. Click here for this season’s Weekly Training Schedule.
Year 8 Squad
This season the Year 8 Squad will train on the same afternoons as last season with the exception of the two changes. The Year 8 squad will train on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons at the rowing shed, and Thursday afternoons at the School gym.
The reason for the swap of training locations for the Wednesday afternoon is so that half way through the season the Year 8s will swap the Wednesday afternoon session for a Wednesday morning session in Term 1 2017 with the Year 9 squad.
The Year 8s will also train on Sunday mornings when there is no regatta. This will allow exclusive use of the rowing shed for the Year 8s and also reduce the volume of rowers at the rowing shed on a Saturday morning each weekend.
- Tuesday afternoon (3:30pm to 5:45pm) Rowing Shed Mosman
- Wednesday afternoon (3:30pm to 5:45pm) Rowing Shed Mosman
- Thursday afternoon (3:30pm to 5:30pm) School Gym
- Sunday morning (6:00am to 9:00am) Rowing Shed Mosman
Year 9 Squad
The Year 9 Squad sessions have altered from previous years. The Year 9s will train on Monday afternoons at the school gym, as well as the Wednesday and Friday mornings at the rowing shed.
In Term 1 2017, the Year 9 squad will swap its Wednesday morning session with the Year 8 Wednesday afternoon session.
- Monday afternoon (3:30pm to 5:30pm) School Gym
- Wednesday morning (5:15am to 7:30am) Rowing Shed Mosman
- Friday morning (5:15am to 7:30am) Rowing Shed Mosman
- Saturday morning (6:30am to 10:30am) Rowing Shed Mosman
Year 10 Squad
Due to our interest and push for the Year 10 squad to race in eights and fours the past season we have rescheduled the Year 10s to train on separate days from the senior squad which will allow better usage of the sweep boats including the eights.
The Year 10 squad will also do their land training on Thursday morning as opposed to afternoons this season.
- Monday morning (5:15am to 7:30am) Rowing Shed Mosman
- Wednesday morning (5:15am to 7:30am) Rowing Shed Mosman
- Thursday morning (6:00am to 8:00am) School Gym
- Saturday morning (6:00am to 11:30am) Rowing Shed Mosman
There is a slight adjustment to this year’s senior program. This season we will be reducing the weekly sessions by one session (1 x Water Session). The Senior rowers will do their strength and conditioning on the Monday mornings this season. This is to factor in recovery and clashes with Sunday regattas. Regardless of whether a regatta is on a Sunday, the senior rowers will train in the gym on the Monday morning. Tuesday and Thursday mornings will see the senior squad train at the rowing shed. Wednesday afternoons will consist of erg training only. Saturdays will consist of a double water session.
The change to the senior weekly schedule has come from the review of last season with the coaching staff and rowers. This goal is to assist the senior rowers with their academic demands, increase involvement, allow greater recovery time between sessions.
- Monday morning – (6:00am to 8:00am) School Gym
- Tuesday morning – (5:15am to 7:30am) Rowing Shed Mosman
- Wednesday afternoon – (3:30pm to 5:30pm) School Gym
- Thursday morning – (5:15am to 7:30am) Rowing Shed Mosman
- Saturday morning – (6:00am to 11:30am) Rowing Shed Mosman
