Principal's Message

Dear Loreto Community members,

The Catholic Bishops of Australia recently released a statement entitled A Vote for the Voiceless. While you are no doubt suffering from an overload of commentary on the upcoming election in the media, the bishops have added an important perspective for your consideration. They state that, “During the long election campaign there will be much talk about the economy and the need for good economic management at a time of some uncertainty.” However, they also state that, “as Pope Francis has pointed out, there is also a danger that the economy can become a kind of false god to which even human beings have to be sacrificed.”

Social Science Report

In week 6 of this term, our two Year 9 Geography elective classes and Year 10, 11 and 12 Geography classes sat the Australian Geography Competition. This competition is held across Australia and involves over 60,000 students. In 2015, class of 2016 Geography student Georgie Worner topped the State in this competition and went on to be a member of the International Olympiad Team. This team will compete in Beijing in August. Best wishes to Georgie as she prepares for this gruelling test and I will keep you updated on her experience.

WATAC Luncheon

On Friday, 10 June, six Year 10 students were invited to attend a celebratory luncheon at State Parliament in recognition of the 30th anniversary of the organisation Women and the Australian Church (WATAC). Formed in 1986 as a national project of the religious women and men of Australia, WATAC aims to unite all facets of the church on an inter-faith basis, with a particular focus on the role of women within Christian society. People from all over Australia had come to attend this event, including old members of WATAC, representatives of parliament, and school students.
