On behalf of Loreto Kirribilli, my sincere appreciation to our Loreto community in support of the major Golf and Tennis day to raise much needed funds to support our Loreto Sisters in building their first pre-primary and community school in Timor-Leste.
The day was certainly a collaborative Loreto community event with support from ex-students, past and current parents, suppliers, sponsors and friends of Loreto. Close to 300 people attended this event contributing in various ways as volunteers, participants in the round robin doubles tennis tournament, or the 18-holes Ambrose golf and/or dinner guests in the evening.
We were truly blessed with magnificent weather commencing the day with the round robin tennis tournament at Manly Lawn Tennis Club, followed by lunch with guest speakers, Gemma Saccasan (Designer) and Kim Nass (MWIA). Meanwhile our full field of golfers commenced a shot gun start at 12noon, and were provided with a sumptuous lunch by Loreto P&F, led by our BBQ gurus, Mary and Anthony Elias. During the course of the day, our Loreto courtesy carts darted around Manly Golf Club providing drinks and snacks whilst selling those ‘dreaded’ raffle tickets!
Following a long day of golf and tennis, our exhausted players continued on to dinner for a formal prize presentation. Across the board 42 prizes were awarded! Our guest speakers for the evening, Sr. Natalie Houlihan IBVM and John Eales, shared their personal stories aligning with the theme for Timor – ‘Courage to Move’. Sr. Natalie provided a first-hand account of life for the children of Timor-Leste and the funds that are desperately needed to complete the pre-primary and community centre.
The Loreto Sisters are extremely thankful to the friends and donors who have contributed to help make this dream become a reality. Through the generosity of our Loreto community this event managed to raise close to $63,000. It’s now time for Timor! Together we can help educate the children of Gari-uai.
