Loreto Kirribilli has a spirit that is quite palpable and it is a joy to be at this school. From the moment our students enter Kindergarten their innate sense of curiosity, wonder and enthusiasm is cultivated.
Our Junior School provides a dynamic curriculum that ensures all our students from Kindergarten to Year 6, remain interested in learning that encompasses the very latest teaching practices.
There are many factors that contribute to the development of an exemplary school, however, the key element will always be the quality of the teaching and relationships. We are blessed to have a staff not only committed to professional excellence, but to supporting the strong charism and heritage of Loreto. The students’ personal success is what drives the passion of good teaching and it is rewarding to see the full engagement of the girls in their learning.
Our Positive Education program aims to build our Character Strengths, fostering gratitude and kindness. A major priority within our school is to develop faith and a Catholic worldview, so the spiritual element of the girls’ education continues to be an important focus. Liturgies, School Masses and daily prayer combined with our Sacramental and Religious Education Programs, assist in developing a community of faith which all combine to weave the fabric of this wonderful Loreto community.
Our pedagogy includes a variety of methods to differentiate the students’ learning. Some of our models we deliver in our classrooms are Tony Ryan’s Thinkers Keys, Project Zero Visible Thinking Routines and Dr Art Costa’s Habits of Mind. All of these models are based on current research and cater for all learning needs. You will often hear in the classrooms our students challenged with questions such as ‘What makes you say that? And what else?’ These models and questions are included across all subjects from Religion to Mathematics.
At Loreto Junior School we offer a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. These include Chess Club, Code Club, Dance, Taekwondo, Tennis, Choirs, Ensembles, Double Dutch Skipping, Debating and Speech and Drama. We also have Tennis, Cross Country, Equestrian, Swimming and Athletic Carnivals, Netball, Hockey, Cricket and Softball. Excursions, camps and special events create valuable learning experiences for the girls as we seek to continually extend their boundaries and enrich their education.
